ok, I'll give it a go :)

The RPM is designed based on RedHat, so if your init.d requirements dont match
up exactly with redHat, then the startup script will give you problems. look in
/etc/sysconfig/slimserver for options and /etc/init.d/slimserver for the
script.

you might have some luck copying one of your systems existing init scripts and
substituting slimserver stuff where applicable.  This is regardless of server
version.

--d_remotestream output will help. do you have any firewall blocking outside

the login info should be something you can enter from the web interface, server
settings->plugins.  This is not a known bug.  I'm told that the Live365 plugin
included with the server has some out of date features and the author is
working on an update.  That said, I've been logging in over the last few days
with little trouble. I'm using Mandrake 10.0.  try running the server with
--d_plugins as a command line option.  as you use live365, it will spit out a
lot more info.
