Ahh - right, that would be it then! I will wipe the whole lot and install a clean copy of released 6.0. Wouldn't it be better if it created all the caches as if user 'slimserver' as part of the install? Then those of us who don't know what we're doing wouldn't run into problems, and those that wanted to re-locate things could do so 'at their own risk'. Thanks for the pointer Michael! Hmm... the rpm should create a user "slimserver" and install the script to run using this user. Have you ever tried to remove everything slimserver related (rpm, ~/.slimserver.pref, /etc/slim*) and reinstalling the rpm from scratch? When slimserver is started for the first time it will create the configuration file (where the path to db & cie. is stored) with the user's permission.
