This morning I turned my computer on and slim server loaded, went to my
SB2 which is in the kitchen (display still blank) and tried to turn it
on via the remote and nothing. I had to disconnect the power plug on
the back and reconnect it for SB2 to turn on. Its fine and is playing
music ok but surely when you turn it off and it displays the clock it
should continue to display the clock when slim server (my pc) is
switched off. It should only complain about not being connected when it
needs to connect to play music. Any ideas?

The SB is completely server driven. The device itself does not contain much functionality. Even the clock is powered by your server.

This might change with the upcoming SqueezNetwork which will allow you to use the devices without having a server on at all the time.
