I switched from XPSP2 over to SuSE 9.2 Linux and it was a good conversion. Since SlimServer is designed on Linux, all the Plug-Ins work better (read: many work just as well, but some I couldn't get work under XP work great under Linux).

I also use iTunes, and found that when you map a Linux drive using Samba to an XP's drive letter, iTunes sees the drive just fine and you can import all the tunes you need. What iTunes does is store it's internal data to your "C:" drive, and that (as far as I know) can't be moved. So, you really need to share that data with Linux. I have not done this (yet).

In the mean time, I use iTunes as a 'client' for the SlimServer 'server', and it works great. Not as featured as the SB I have at work, but all in all a good match.

Hope this helps,

Last night I reverted back to the 5.4.0 release. It's the *only*
release I've seen that is stable on XP SP2. I've tried almost every
one and all the 6.x releases.

I haven't almost give up on slimdevices, just running the slimserver
on XP. I feel like they just don't have a happy marriage so I was
contemplating putting everything on Linux to save myself some
headache. The problem is I put a high value on the iTunes integration
and not sure if I can get the slimserver on linux to communicate
smoothly to a XP iTunes installation. Any advice on this is
appreciated.

I'm happy to re-install 6.x and send any logs. If one can give me some
guidance on what information would be most helpful, let me know and
I'll forward on.

Thanks,

Allen
