I've got some Cat 5 cable, two wall plates and a couple of patch cables so I was planning to lash up a crossover botch tomorrow night. I'll see how that runs. However, like you, the rest of my wireless network is fine (main PC, wireless router/modem, laptop, PDA) so I can't see it being interference. I was on the verge of buying an SB2 but I'm putting that on hold until this issue is resolved, in case whatever is causing it affects that too.
