Well, it's quieter. :)
Since Squeezebox2 uses a 24bit DAC and the output gain is calculated in 24bit space, for some volume levels on the analog output it will be lossless digitally, and for others it's unlikely that you'll be able to hear the difference. (Audiophiles, stand down...)
