I know this is an old topic, but I want to raise it again. I would happily pay for a device that would plug into the digital output of my receiver (which I don't use) and control my amplifier power. I suspect the device would be cheap to make, and the firmware could be changed to control it. I would think it could be made to pass through the digital output for those who need it.
Power control either by a power switch, or by an IR emitter, would be fine.
