Here's a problem I've sorted, but might be of use to others. For some reason SC stopped responding and on restarting I was confronted with the setup wizard. Annoying, but easily remedied. After a total rescan my playlists had disappeared.
Checking the server verified the files were still there. Another playlist scan: SC reported scanning around 25 playlists, but after the scan no playlists were visible in SC. Saving a new playlist worked fine. Copying my backed up playlists over the original files and doing a rescan restored them to their former glory - including one that hadn't been included in the backup. I've no idea what the problem was, but do know that keeping a backup was really useful.
