I guess you would probably need to use something like a wi-spy to do a
good site survey of the airwaves to see where the problems are coming
from.

The first question I have is if your squeezecenter server is on wired
networking.

Second it would be helpful to know what kind of AP you are using.  It
may be possible that upgrading to a MIMO based wifi router could fix
some of your problems.  MIMO is generally found on draft-11n routers. 
You won't get the 11n or 5.8ghz help, but the better antenna setup
would probably help.
