That definitely works, but is a bit messy.

It's a Win2k OS with SS installed as a service.  If I try to stop the
service, it will invariably "fail to respond within a timely fashion"
and will remain at status "stopping".  If I manually kill the process,
then I get problems trying to restart the service.  More often than not
I'll need to reboot the server to get everything back.

It's certainly quicker to reboot the server than to rescan the music
library a couple of times, but it seems a bit excessive just to stop the
scan.

Not really a major problem, was just wondering if the functionality
already exists and I've not found it yet...
