Tamanaco (Cacique Venezolano) - Venezuelan Indian Chief that along with his fighting men resisted the Spanish conquest. Soon after his warriors defeated the Spaniards in a battle, he was captured and sentenced to death. Rather than being hung, he choose to fight to death a Spanish fighting dog bare-handed. This last act of courage inspired his people to continue to resist the conquest. After his death Venezuelan native warriors yelled his named before going into battle.
Not much is known or written about the heroes that resisted the Spanish conquest. An embellished and lopsided version history was written by the victors... but the great struggle and heroism of the defeated was remembered by the natives and passed down by word of mouth to my generation...
