I can only give you a partial answer on this. The Duet is capable of working without a wifi network. When you set up the SB Controller (SBC) and the first SB Receiver (SBR), do it so that the SBC connects to your network via the SBR. You can then go about setting up the other SBRs. Once set up, you can control the various SBRs from a single SBC by using the "Choose Player" menu option.
What I do NOT know for certain is whether the SBC can connect to the network via different SBRs. I don't think it can, but I'm not sure. If I am correct, then you should be sure that the SBR you choose to serve as a bridge from the SBC to your network is centrally located, so that the signals between it and your SBC are sufficiently strong wherever you are using the SBC.
