Sorry it's been a long time since I've ripped (I use Napster mostly now) but I don't remember it being excessive. In fact, having multiple CD drives in my PC I was able to have a few running simultaneously. Note that the free version of MM has a rip speed limit (2x IIRC) so I would suggest going gold if you want to speed things up.
