The maximum is defaulted to 500, but it can be changed to 0 (no max) or whatever number you like. The restriction is server-wide, so the player doesn't matter - it will affect any player connected to the server. The restriction isn't really with playlists, per se, but with the number of items that can be exist at any given time in the Current Playlist. But... the Squeezeplay based players (Radio, Touch and probably the Duet if you're using the Controller) are really bad with large playlists, so be careful.
