You might try different player settings for synchronizing power. That's all I can think of that might affect this behavior.
If you set the screen savers for both Off and Stopped to the same thing. and the Off and Idle brightness to the same level, then there's little difference between on/idle and off. This is how I've always configured all of my SBs, using the Date/Time screensaver.
