I'm using the newer PhiHong EU Efficiency Level V SMPS for my SBT. It does have faster transient response and less noise being sent back to the AC. Since the switching freq is higher, it is also easier to filter. My PS Audio PPP is very effective in nuking the AC noise from this Level V SMPS, but not with the SBT's stock SMPS. The sound is better with this SMPS than with the stock one from my SBT (also OEM'ed from PhiHong). The only problem is that PhiHong typically use 2.1mm pin barrel plug where as the SBT has 2.5mm. So the SMPS is not directly interchangeable with the SMPS from the SBT even though they look identically. I made a pigtail converting the 2.1mm plug to a 2.5mm and in the process, I put a 1uF SMD film cap inside the plug right across GND and +5V to kill off some more high freq noise. That seems to help a bit. I highly recommend using a barrel power connector and a Level V SMPS brick for this project. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kuro's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16701 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97881 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
