Yes. NFS is much faster. Hacking the Vortexbox (2.3) install was really quite easy. The QNAP folder /share/Qmultimedia is still available via Samba as well for windows clients. The important bit to get right is the file permissions and ownership so that LMS, the VB CD ripper and Samba all work as you would want. I wrote a short HowTo which you can find on the Vortexbox forum.
