As this question was sent via my support email as well, I totally forgot
to duplicate my answer here:

iOS doesn't allow Apps to stay active in the background for an unlimited
time (with the exception of Apps that are actively playing music).

So the following rules apply for SqueezePad:

- as long as you have started a song or a playlist, music will play in
the background for an unlimited time (as much as is in the playlist at
least)
- when music is stopped, SqueezePad keeps an active connection to
SqueezeBox server for about 4 minutes. This allows you to gracely do
track changes.
- when after 4 minutes no new music has been started again, SqueezePad
will stop itself (and its connection to SqueezeBox server) before iOS
forces SqueezePad to stop anyways.

Cheers
Stefan
