due to sheer convenience i dial my Dac+preamp at a medium-high listening level, and fine-tune the volume with the LMS remote on my iPad. i can not ever hear a difference in sound quality, even with 192/24 recordings (not that i can tell or care to tell a difference between 24/192 and 16/44.1 of very well recorded material, either).
