It is needed on RPi. But I understand what's missing is the Spotify menu item for Transporter, correct?
There's a bug in various old versions of LMS that can cause the menu item to not be transferred from MySqueezebox.com (which manages it for the different players) and especially old builds of LMS 7.9 (pre-release) can be problematic.
