In theory you should be able to simply plug it in to power (USB socket) and Ethernet (same LAN as your local LMS) and it should appear as a player in LMS within seconds.
Can you explain what issues you have? Nowadays people would do the same with a Raspberry Pi for around 1/3 of the price those boxes sold for when new (7+ years ago).
