I am running LMS 8.1.2 on a pCP 6 and it plays on a boom, touch, radio. I don't know if this is a "fake memory" (exists in my brain but not in reality), but I dimly recall that some work was done in LMS 8+ to address better https streaming. perhaps you can upgrade? I think the fact that you have sucess with LMS 8 might indicate what the issue is. One other thing that probably has nothing to do with it, but I am running the "reliable" https connection plug in. I use that for podcasts, but who knows... One other thing, you can go into the page source and choose other streams. Like I said, I just chose the ones that I thought would be the best quality.
