This is OT, aside from the fact I'm ripping to my music server for playing using my SB system.
I've noted quite a range in the speed at which CDs get ripped, using dBpoweramp. Sometimes they're slow, like 4 or 5 times playback. Other times it will approach 15 or even 20. dBp settings don't change. It's not clear what the variables are. It's not dirt or scratches (sometimes that's a factor, but it's not a generic factor). Sometimes in low-budget contexts it can be CD burning technology, where it appears the burn is done in a CD-rewritable fashion. But often it's none of the above. For instance, just today I'm ripping CDs from Joni Mitchell's newly released Archives V. 1 box set; I'm getting very slow rip speeds, despite the fact it's a well-produced package selling in the gazillions. What are the variables here? Ron PS -- why am I ripping CDs when I could download the files in lossless format? Because I wanted the liner notes; Joni grew up in Saskatchewan, from whence I hail, and it was very interesting to me to read about places I know. Also because the package was given to me as a birthday present, so I didn't actually have to buy it.
