As PoW states, can you connect to a local SlimServer?

SqueezeNetwork is nothing more than a modified
SlimServer running on the Internet. It doesn't
care about WEP or any other local networking
configuration - that is between your Squeezebox
and your router.

However there is one extra step that
SqueezeNetwork access requires - DNS resolution.
That's why if you're using a static IP address,
your Squeezebox asks you for the IP address of
your DNS server.

If you can't access your DNS server,
SqueezeNetwork access will fail.

If you can't access your DNS server, there are
three causes:

1. No connectivity in general, in which case you
wouldn't be able to access SlimServer either.

2. Improper DNS server specified in setup.

3. Overloaded/laggy DNS server. I have this
problem frequently. Usually if SqueezeNetwork
connection fails on the first try, the second try
will work though.

It sounds like your problem is related to no
connectivity. Double, triple and quadruple-check
your WEP password. It only needs to be off by one
character to not work at all. The Squeezebox UI
makes it easy to accidentally insert leading or
trailing spaces - press the PLAY button to delete
them.

And finally, there are just some routers that
won't work. Check here:

Wireless networking technology is still immature.
Manufacturers only loosely follow standards and
make frequent changes. It's unfair to blame Slim
Devices - they are using a wireless card made by
one of the "big guys" - Atheros - see
http://www.slimdevices.com/photos/inside_squeezebox2/
Atheros chipsets are used widely by NETGEAR and
HP, for example, although this is old information
and I believe D-Link has used them from time to time.
