There's a project underway at UCSB to digitize and archive old "cylinder" recordings. They currently have over 5,000 archived, and the songs are in the public domain, available for download. They currently stream selections from the archive, which are available at:
http://stream1x.library.ucsb.edu/Cakewalks.m3u The project's home page is: http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/index.php It has recordings ranging from 1890 to around 1928.
