> (1) really good quality sound into my audio system and Agreed. Although I think that for most people--and I'm not looking to start yet another audiophile debate here--MP3s are capable of providing adequate sound reproduction for their uses, and I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people useing their Squeezeboxen are (1) streaming MP3s, and (2) using the RCA jacks. I think the success of MP3 players attest to the general adequacy of the format, despite the otherwise valid points people with more discerning ears may make.
>(2) the ability to choose music with a remote control, using a device >with a display I could read from the sofa. Also agreed. What would probably compete with the squeezebox market would be an iPod you could dock, see from across the room, and control remotely. I think a WiFi iPod could compete too, if it can streem from the iPod to a stereo and you could just look at the display in your hand, though I tend to think that battery life would be severly limited in this mode of use.
