Also, I've found some install packages simply don't like being installed in a terminal session and require a console session.
FWIW I've been managing dozens of servers remotely, using the remote desktop (they are four floors under my office). I _never_ encountered a problem installing whatever due to the fact that I wasn't sitting in front of the machine.
