The display is Vaccuum Flourescent, based on modules from Noritake. This technology is known to suffer from burn-in, but the lifetime is very long (long enough that I don't believe they even quote MTBF in the official specs). The original Slim Devices product, SliMP3 has been in the field for years (5 I think?) using a Noritake Character display of the same technology. Unit #1 is still running nicely. There was a recent case brought up in the forum a while ago seemingly showing faded pixels. The user was directed to slim devices support, and I'm not sure what happened from there. Slimserver automatically scrolls long lines, and typical browsing should give you a long life. It should not be necessary to have to worry about turning the display down to zero.
