Yes, well summarised.  On point 6, to be fair, it wasn't "not going into
standby was an identified problem"; rather Qnap claim there was an
"error with standby mode (drives do not run HDD sleep mode on
schedule)".  This implies that it was *when* it happened rather than
*whether*.

In relation to the clear and rescan, I was using the standard server
option.
