Trying to fix it myself is my first response rather than asking someone
else to provide a fix for me.
In addition, I think anyone installing 6.5.1 will quickly discover this
issue.
Well, I've been running 6.5.1 updated nightly since it was branched and I don't see it. You're making this too difficult... for everyone! Put it into the hands of SD so they can fix the problem.
