and as an extra bonus, now it will only play the first 7 seconds or so of my local music, before it restarts it for no reason, or simply stops all together.
Have you ever tried doing a factory reset on your player? Unplug the player, hold down the ADD button while you plug it in again. Repeat the configuration. I sometimes experienced similar problems after firmware upgrades. The factory reset fixed them every time.
