The SlimServer program name is "slim.exe", whether it is running a
service or not.

This sounds like the inevitable confusion caused by recent changes to
SlimTray:

SlimServer is installed as a service, but you have the option of
running it as a user program.  Why?  Seems like it's mostly to address
the issue of SlimServer accessing mapped network drives.
