This sounds like the inevitable confusion caused by recent changes to SlimTray: http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4131 http://svn.slimdevices.com/?rev=10193&view=rev SlimServer is installed as a service, but you have the option of running it as a user program. Why?
