Don't forget if you rewrite it in C - Slimdevices may not maintain it. AFAICT SlimTray does not take up 13Mbytes by itself. - look at the memory usage in detail.
About half of that are shared Microsoft DLLs and about 25% is the main Perl interpreter DLL which is shared with Slimserver.
