When I tried using homeplugs on my setup at home I was having problems also. Plugged a laptop into the homeplug absolutely no problem. Plug the squeezebox in no connection but plug the squeezebox into my router no problem.
What I ended up doing which doesnt really make sense was use a spare 4 port switch between the homeplug and the squeezebox.
