I'm not sure which method you're using the generate the m3u files - if you create them as playlists inside the mixer first, you can right-click and set the "Extended" option to save them with EXTM3U data. If you do File/Save As Playlist, those should also be in extended format.
I don't see a hook for the HTTP API to generated extended format, but I made a note to add that in the future.
