I had an SB3 that appeared to be dead like you describe.  When I sent it
to SD for a repair, they discovered that the fault was with the wireless
card.  So, if you expect that your warranty has expired, you might try
opening the unit up and removing the wireless card and seeing if the
display comes back.  Stranger things have happened.  I think you'll
need a torx T10 screwdriver or tip for this.  I just tried this with
one of my own SB3s, to no apparent ill effect.  It's an easy diagnostic
step, anyway.
