You can certainly do that and the source volume certainly will impact the volume of sound output from the Duet. Look for a tool called mp3gain which will analyze your MP3's and can optionally make modifications to reach a desired average level. In my experience this tool will usually lower the volume of most data ripped from CD's and it does so to reduce the MP3 volume clipping that can happen. MP3 clipping will certainly deduce the quality of the output. If you are concerned about audio quality then you are better off using lossless encodings like FLAC. Ben
