Thanks to some help from the support team at Slim Devices my problem is solved and I have egg on my face.....
Please go ahead and close this case. After some digging the I've found that the root cause of the problem is the ESET firewall software. For reference, if anyone else encounters the problem, the following will be seen in the firewall logs: "Reverse TCP Desynchronization attack" To resolve this just untick the "Reverse TCP Desynchronization attack" option in the firewall settings (Personal Firewall > IDS and advanced options > Intrusion detection).
