I agree basically: the *mission* is a successful democratic commons, and
*funding* is a means to that end. Still, among all sorts of ways we can
build that commons, Snowdrift.coop as a practical project *does* aim to
address the funding challenge as the primary means by which we achieve
the mission, but it is not the end in itself.

The goal is to clear the snow, and if we do that by all working on it or
by all paying a smaller dedicated team, either way, we need the snow
cleared. However, our realistic assessment at this time is that funding
is the primary thing to focus on to achieve this.
