Dear Carpentry Instructors,

we are writing to inform you of a summer school from July 9th to 13th in
Hannover, Germany. The aim is to train junior scientists:

a) in implementing the FAIR principles for research data management,
b) in good practices in managing scientific software engineering projects, and
c) to identify similarities and differences in how to treat these important
scientific objects FAIRly.

For this event, we are looking for instructors and trainers willing to join us
in an experiment: teaching not a classic Carpentry workshop for two days, but
cherry-picking parts of the lessons that lend themselves to practising the
implementation of the "FAIR principles" [0] for data sets and software. For
example, highlighting the advantage of tidy data by remixing different
datasets, re-using public data sets for visualisations, packaging R code, and
more [1]. We will be preparing these examples during May and June, of course
openly available under github.com/TIBHannover.

In case the full 5 days are not feasible, your support would of course be
welcome also for a part of the week.

Thanks to a grant from the German Ministry of Education and Research, we will
fully cover your accommodation cost [2] as well as travel costs. During the
workshop, snacks, drinks and vegan & non-vegan lunch will be available, and we
will have an instructors' dinner.

The registration site [3] will be communicated publicly to interested junior
scientists in a few days, as well as the workshop's GitHub Page [4].

We would be happy to have you join us as instructors, helpers or of course as
participants as well. Please reply to carpentr...@tib.eu, also if you have any
questions or feedback about this experimental workshop format.

Kind regards, and best wishes to you all,

Angelina Kraft
