What does the log file of X contain after the crash? Not only a graphic card can crash X but the mouse, keyboard, monitor and even the monitor cable can have a bad influence. Move the box to a working workplace and connect the known good periphery, if it works there move it back and swap one periphery item after an other to find the bad apple.
