I am looking for a new contract, and am looking at system administration,
technical writing and programming positions.

For technical writing and programing, most companies (and governments
agencies) are asking for samples of work. The problem is, all my best and
most extensive work has been done at customer sites and they typically won't
agree to let you take samples, they are typically worried about
confidentiality issues.

I do have examples of writing on my blog, and I publish pieces of code I
write for my own personal use, but those cannot be compared to what I
produce when working on a project over several weeks or even months.

Have you run into this problem ? How did you deal with it ?
