Interestingly enough, Artic does still exist. However, in the last 6
months or so, they've become increasingly unresponsive to my quiries
to get things fixed/replaced. They're concentrating on their simply
computers devision now, and won't admit their speech stuff exists
anymore. If you track them down using their simply computers info,
they just shrug, and claim the artic numbers are supposed to be
working, and give you a line about phones not being configured/moved
yet. Well, the last time I got that response, i could accept it,
since it was just a week after their latest move. However, I no
longer believe that can be applied as reasonable. <sigh> I'm still
trying to get them to release or sell their artic screen reader as
freeware, or to someone else who might be willing to update it/port
it to other platforms (linux anyone) Would be nice to have a nativ
mac driver for the transport too. But, alass, they're too
entrenched, and won't budge.
I'll keep trying, but unfortunately, I don't see any hope. Perhaps I
could get them to sell me all their remaining inventory, and I could
find an electronics repair shop that would be willing to help me
repair existing units still in the field.

I never thought of trying the Transport in accent mode. I think I read
somewhere though that you lose a ton of responsiveness doing that.
That's
at least why Speakup has a driver for the transport and one for the
accent. I find that interesting that artic wouldn't give you access to
all the speed settings. Very strange. Just out of curiosity does Artic
still exist?
