Hi John,

Yes, it's ctrl-a  and this is something that works from terminal to move back 
to  
the start of a line, too. The ctrl-a moves you to the beginning of a line and 
ctrl-e
moves you to the end.

I sometimes type this with an extra keystroke sequence when I touch-type:
the url with an initial space, then the address, ctrl-a to move to the start of 
the
string, shift-right-arrow, delete, carriage return.

You don't need the shift, but when I'm typing on my laptop the rhythm of having
my pinky hit the ctrl key, with my ring finger on "a", and then my pinky to 
shift
works better for me.  Then the right hand sequence of right arrow, release shift
from the left hand, delete key, and return.

Ignore everything but the first paragraph if this typing sequrence doesn't work
for you!  It may also feel different if you're not typing on a laptop keyborad.
