Hmmm, some people have a problem and some don't but what really amazes me is that Word Processors and editors for example (whether they be for Windows or for the Mac), don't have a key you can press to start and end your selection with, say go to the start of where you want to highlight, press a key, go to the end of where you want to highlight and press another key to mark the end of highlighting, so simple but yet so damn hhard to implement it would seem <smile>.

My bent is to type what I want in the style I want and move on. I've often found <in windows> that selection can be an iffy proposition.

Thank you, that's exactly how I thought it worked, glad my lessons in windows taught me something about the wonderful Mac <smile>

But can't you short circuit all this though by say selecting a portion of text and then applying the shortcut?

Yes, you can. And when you do it that way, you don't have to woory about how to turn the attribute off again as it will only affect the highlighted portion.
