The way I restore from the recycle bin is to go into terminal, cd to  
the .trash directory (that begins with a period) then do an mv to put  
the file back where I want it to go.  I often have to do this after  
downloading a .tar.gz file, since macos dumps it in the trash  
automatically, even though I've told it not to do this.
