Hi everyone!
I was interested to read an article in the Green Guide (the
technology section of our local newspaper) about the 2 new competing
formats for DVD recording and playing, HD DVD (High Definition) DVD)
and Blueray which is also capable of High definition picture and
sound. I was fascenated to learn that Apple are one of the big names
which have decided to get behind Blueray, other big names include
Panasonic, Sony and Pioneer so will there be another "VHS-BETA"-like
battle on our hands in the not-to-distant future? HD DVD also has its
backers which include Toshiba but on the other hand, its technically
possible I'm told to make a player or drive which can play both HD
DVD and Blueray discs along with all the other formats we know of now
so perhaps the warring factions may see sense, make peace and just
develop the 2 formats jointly? I doubt it.
Anyhow, we're all in for an interesting time of watching, Toshiba now
incorporate HD DVD drives in their "top-of-the-range" notebook
computers and I'm not sure what Apple are doing with their Macbook
Pro right now but (since I've mentioned it) I'll go and have a look,
the rush is on to try and swindle us out of more hard-earned dollars
<smile>.
