Here in Alaska, we have more computers per capita, than any state in the Union. One reason is because we're such a long way from the Lower 48, and satelite transmission is the quickest way to link up with the rest of the country. None of our Internet providers or cable/satelite outlets offer descriptive video programming. If we want to get it, we have to access it either from Los Angeles or Seattle, which is sixteen hundred miles away. Apple has just shipped a huge load of computers to various village districts because their school districts saw the potential for blind Alaska Natives in the villages to have affordable access. It is my hope that the Alaska Division of Vocational Rehabilitation will work with the Alaska Center for the Blind to incorporate VoiceOver training in their curriculum--something I have been pushing for since Tiger's release in April of last year.
