HI Cheryl and all,

I have a thought but don't know how to do it. If you can find a way to start disc utility and repair permissions, this might fix the problem. It seems to me that there should be a way to doo this from the command line through ssh.

hi David and all.
it's not just vo; it's all sound except the built-in sounds you get when you hit key combinations that don't work. this is very frustrating. i know there's nothing actually wrong with my sound because I booted the ubuntu edgy cd and the welcome music came bursting forth from my imic usb-connected speakers. also, through the internal speakers in Macosx, I hear those sounds that tell me I've hit a key combination that won't work. also, my installation dvd doesn't seem to boot but it boots on my other mac and the edgy cd boots on my mac so the failure to boot the installation dvd must also have to do with whatever happened to my sound. If i have to wait till monday and take this back to Compusa I'm going to be so mad!!! I've even tried resetting the pram; haven't tried resetting the pmu but I don't think that's relevant here. grrrrrrrr!!!
