Ok, well this is interesting news if it proves to be correct. I read this morning that EMI will be selling their collection through Itunes encoded at 256K AAC format minus DRM, if this is indeed the case then EMI are accepting the very obvious, DRM is messy and its been a failure, main reason being that if you don't have an Ipod or Itunes or you don't have a licence then you're up the creek without a paddle as far as playing songs with a DRM key. Steve Jobs from Apple Inc has been arguing that DRM should be placed on the scrap heap and law makers in various countries have been arguing the very same thing now for quite some time. For those people who have purchased any of the EMI collection from Itunes already and who may wish to upgrade to the better AAC quality DRM free version there will be a $).30 upgrade charge for the new version of Itunes, perfectly reasonable as far as I'm concerned, I just wonder whether Itunes will eventually take Paypal as many of us don't have credit cards <smile>.
Will other record company's follow? We can only wait and see.
